The Syrian Tragedy – Destruction of a World Culture
In November and December 2016 our association organized an exhibition and several panel discussions in cooperation with the Urban Archive Stuttgart, ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) and with kind support from the BW Bank.
Three Discussion rounds on Syria and Aleppo
Within the frame of the exhibition’s opening the first panel discussion took place on Wednesday, 23.11.2016, 19:00h, in Stuttgart’s Urban Archive in Bellingweg 21.
The evening started with opening speeches on the occasion of the exhibition.
Afterwards, the panel discussion on "Aleppo Archive – how important is to remember?" took place. Guests on the podium were Prof. Dr. Mamoun Fansa (archaeologist and former director of the Oldenburg’s state museum for nature and human science) and Nihad Sirees (Syrian writer). Jörg Armbruster moderated the panel discussion.
On Thursday, 01.12.2016, 19:00h, the Ifa Institute at Charlottenplatz hosted the second panel discussion titled "Understanding Syria – about the future of a region". This time, Daniel Gerlach (Journalist and editor-in-chief of zenith magazine) discussed with Dr. Sadiq Al-Mousllie (Syrian National Council). Jörg Armbruster moderated the panel discussion.
The Third panel discussion took place on Wednesday, 07.12.2016, 19:00h, in Stuttgart’s Urban Archive in Bellingweg 21.
This discussion’s title was "Reconstruction in Europe – a model for Aleppo?" This time Jörn Düwel (Professor of Architecture at HafenCity Hamburg) discussed with Stefano Bianca (Architect with long standing experience in urban rehabilitation and renewal in the Islamic world). Jörg Armbruster moderated the panel discussion.
